Positive: We stayed at Margarita Eco-Village as the first stop of our honeymoon, and it was truly magical. This small eco-village was founded just two years ago by an Italian couple — the most welcoming, warm and genuinely kind hosts you could imagine. From the very first moment, we felt like we were visiting friends rather than just staying somewhere. We chose the treehouse cabin, and it was an unforgettable experience. It has no windows or doors, so at night a soft, pleasant breeze flows through the space. We slept incredibly well on a very comfortable bed, surrounded by the sounds of birds and crickets. Waking up there feels like living in the jungle — completely immersed in nature, under the stars, with breathtaking views all around. We were absolutely in love with the scenery. Breakfast was included, and it was exceptional. The highlight was the HOMEMADE YOGURT — honestly the best yogurt we’ve ever had (and we’re from Cyprus, so that says a lot!). There was also homemade jam, a beautiful selection of fresh fruits, avocado, cheese, scrambled eggs, freshly brewed coffee, and fresh juice. It was the perfect start to every day. Being an Italian family, they take food very seriously — and we are so glad we chose to have dinner there every evening. Dinner costs $30 per person and includes three courses: starter, main course, and dessert. We are absolutely sure we wouldn’t have found food of this quality anywhere else in the Dominican Republic. The menu included ricotta and sage ravioli, barracuda fish, pumpkin soup with ginger, and many other incredible dishes. It’s the kind of menu you rarely find even in a good Italian restaurant. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the sunsets, the pool with jacuzzi, and truly rested for months ahead. There is also a separate yoga platform and they offer gong baths, which we unfortunately didn’t have time to try.

Negative: One important thing to keep in mind when booking: the area is not very touristy, and having a car is essential. Uber does not work here, and walking anywhere in the tropical climate is quite challenging. The hosts cooperate with a local driver who can take you anywhere for a reasonable price, but it can still add up (around $20 for a 10-minute ride). There are no nearby car rental options, so it’s important to plan this in advance.
